Despite being marketed alongside research peptides, 5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a small-molecule methylquinolinium derivative that has been investigated as a selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT).
NNMT is involved in the metabolism of nicotinamide, a precursor involved in NAD+ metabolism. Preclinical research has investigated NNMT inhibition in relation to cellular metabolism, adipose tissue and energy balance.
Research into 5-Amino-1MQ remains predominantly preclinical. Findings from animal studies cannot be assumed to translate directly to humans, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not an approved medicinal product.
